The Labs - Design & Functionality For The Net
Here we will list our experiences with video-cards and X11 (Linux & FreeBSD).
We recommend to get X-Accelerated
X-server, it's a commercial product but it's worth the money if you
use your workstation professionally. XFree86 is catching up in quality
with support by several vendors finally releasing their details
to coders so they can write functional drivers.

Almost every 3-4 months new cards are released, unfortunately it's hard
to get PCI cards for multihead (multiply monitors) use.
The AGP G400 by Matrix only supports two monitors with 1280x1024x24, but not
higher, so PCI card is required. Right now G200 and Voodoo 2/3 are available
with PCI (check DAC-bandwidth) (status May 2000).
We consider to get Matrox G400 with X-Accelerated X-server
and Sony 24" 16:9 (GDM-900)
monitor. Once we did our tests we will post our experiences here; so far
G400 32MB (SGRAM) 300 or 350MHz does support 16.8M colors (32bpp) should work up to 1920x1200, and even
2048 x 1536.
The G200-MMS (Multiple Monitor Support)
provide on one PCI card Dual or Quad output (1600x1200 @80Hz), total four
such PCI cards (or 16 Monitors) can be connected.
XIG: X-Accelerated doesn't direct support 24" Sony GDM-900,
but they said it would be possible by editing monitor-description file. Once we had experience we will list it here.
There are almost every 3 months new videocards, but since we focus on
Linux, FreeBSD etc, you likely always check if there are drivers.
We do not sell any of the products, but just recommend
them. Look at Shopper.Com to compare
prices.
